The ski crazy town of Methven in inland Canterbury geared itself to deal with over 800 women cyclists in 2010 and again in 2011! Check out just some of the fabulous feedback that was received from the inaugural event. Click here.
Lots and lots of them from all over the country, women cyclists (tandems, road bikes, mountain bikes) will descend on the town yet again for the third edition of Brazier Properties Girls On Bikes road cycling event in 2012.
A few years ago it (Methven) was Oscar winning Peter Jackson directing the action as Lord of the Rings was shot in the area. This time around it's award winning race team from Top of the South Events calling the shots as the all girl fields set off on circuits of 37km or 76km, catering from newcomers to organised cycling as well as the more experienced. The stunning Southern Alps are the picture perfect backdrop to these beautiful courses.
While the short course of 37km has little in the way of ups and downs, it will present a challenge to novices with the Canterbury Nor’wester always ready to throw a little extra into the challenge.
The longer course of 76km is more of a challenge and is an option for all well trained recreational riders as well as catering for A, B, C and D grade licensed club riders.
This is a great distance to cut your teeth on as preparation for the longer events later in the year such as the Forrest Graperide. The two anti clockwise loop courses are designed for maximum rider safety and convenience, with the riders returning to the start area to complete the event at the luxurious Methven Resort.
Then watch the post ride celebrations begin and experience the true spirit of the famous Methven hospitality. The 2012 event will see us all partying up a storm poolside at the Methven Resort with a BBQ style meal available to all those that attend.
We can absolutely guarantee yet again another truck load of fun and laughter with the odd little surprise that will make this one of the most memorable occasions you have ever had. Yes it will be even better than 2010 and 2011!
$70,000 of spot prizes and giveaways from our wonderful family of sponsors along with a combination of sponsors products and trophy acknowledgements for place getters in the various recreational and licensed rider categories. For the registered riders class there is a cash prize pool of $2000 and is sponsored by Moa Beer.
Don't forget to bring your swimwear as the Resort has a lovely big swimming pool which runs at a constant 27 degrees to look after those tired and weary bodies! We will have our official Girls on Bikes Life Guards to keep watch over you throughout the day!
Online entries for the 2012 event are now open and will be limited to 1000 entries.
